The Las Musas Podcast

I’m part of an incredible marketing collective called Las Musas and I along with other Musas, Crystal Maldonado, Olivia Abtahi, Jonny Garza Villa, and Angela Velez, have been working hard to create a podcast aimed at illuminating the traditional publishing experience from a distinctly Latinx perspective.

Las Musas began in 2018 as a way to connect women and marginalized people whose gender identity aligns with femininity and who were soon to be traditionally published.

What started as a marketing collective meant to uplift marginalized voices evolved to include a mentorship program for aspiring Kidlit authors and illustrators and the first ever Latinx Kidlit book festival.

Advocating for both Latinx authors and readers has become core to who we are and this podcast is an extension of that commitment.

We'll be pulling back the veil and sharing all the details about our publishing journeys, what debut year is really like, and how we're working towards creating a sustainable writing career in an industry still struggling with diversity, equity, and transparency.

This season will feature one on one interviews with our 2021 debut class, as well as recurring mailbag episodes where we'll be answering listener questions. We'll also be discussing every detail of the debut experience in a monthly series called Debut Diaries.

It's our hope that in sharing our experiences, the ups and the downs and everything in between, that aspiring Kidlit authors, and particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, will be equipped with the knowledge to make their own journey just a little bit easier.

Because kids need your books and there's nothing we want more than to help you share your story.
